Finding purpose in life by Griffin rain

What is your purpose? Until we figure that out, the end for which we were created, we will be lost. Many people do not know why they are here and this becomes very obvious when evangelizing. They will tell me that they don't know why they are here or what their purpose is in life. Because of this they are depressed and do many things that are immoral because they have lost hope as they do not know what to hope for. When we know the purpose or the end in which we were created for, that gives direction to our lives.

Both the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Baltimore catechism begin with sections on the purpose of man. This is something that each person desires, to know why they are here and for what purpose. If we don’t know our purpose, we tend to not have direction.

I like the simplicity of the Baltimore catechism answers when discussing with people who are outside of the church that I meet in my ministry. It is clear and direct.

6. Q. Why did God make you?

A. God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him for ever in heaven.

Am what I am doing in this action helping me to reach my end? Is it helping me to know God? Is it helping me to love God? Is it helping me to serve Him in this world? If not then I should not do that action or else I may risk my ultimate happiness with him forever in heaven.

Recently I shared this with a man who said that he felt he had no purpose in life. I shared this with him and listened to some of the ways he has gone in his search for meaning. This helped him to connect many dots in his own life. He shared that seeing things in this way helps and he wants to cut out some of the bad habits that he has started primarily due to his lack of direction. When we know our end, it helps us to cut out the things that would detract from that end.

Knowing your purpose and the universal call to holiness helps us a lot to remain in the will of God. How has God called you to know, love and serve Him?

Disputatio - The first disputatio was a hit and we plan to make this a monthly event!

Come expand your mind and refine your reasoning skills.

The event will consist of the following: Three (or so) volunteers from those who attend will do their best to answer a question (they will not know the questions beforehand). These questions could be philosophical, theological, or cultural. Each volunteer will then respond to three objections taken from the audience and will afterwards have the opportunity to restate or change their original position.

The questions can range from goofy to grim. The only similarity between all the questions is that each will provide opportunities for us to improve our ability to reason.

Tea and scones will be provided as refreshments and, weather permitting, the event will be followed by a fire outside.

There is nothing you need to do to prepare. You need simply arrive at 6:30pm on Sunday, the 27th of April. The event will take place at the Street Disciple House: 2126 W Michigan St. Milwaukee, WI, 53233

Please feel free to invite anyone you think would enjoy this event. This event is for everyone who loves the truth, religious or not. Come ease the body and strain the mind!

About the Missionaries of the Real Presence

The Missionaries of the Real Presence aims to assist in the apostolic renewal of the church by intentionally discipling men living in community and encouraging missionary vocations in the church. We participate in Christ’s evangelizing work for the salvation of souls especially seeking out those who have been spiritually neglected. We introduce people to Jesus through intentional conversation, preaching, teaching, and prayer. We engage in direct evangelization in the public forum on the city streets, on public transit, in homes and share the good news of Christ with those we meet. All of this flows from a life of prayer and union with Jesus as our source.
